Little touches to make your house feel more like a home

A little pop’ll do ya

You don’t need a ton of flowers to make a big statement, especially in a small space (like this bathroom counter)..

One of my favorite things to do is to transform a space form cold and unused to warm and inviting. And sometimes the best way to do that is to bring a little outside in.

One of the quickest ways to freshen up a nook or a table—or even your guest bathroom—is with a few flowers.

Now... mea culpa... I like to garden, so I try to dedicate some decent yard space to blooms. And while roses and lillys always top the charts, my favorte cut flower might always be the hydrangea.

But I digress.... You can have flowers inside your own house, green thumb or not, thanks to cut flower displays in most grocery stores.

Let me clarify, too. This doesn't mean a giantic arrangemet. (Though those are nice, to be sure.) Sometimes a big imapact can come from a few strategically placed buds in a colorful vase. Or even a jelly jar.

In fact, whenever I have guests coming to visit, I like to spruce up my downstairs bathroom with a small bouquet. Just a few buds. It adds a nice, warm touch to what can otherwise be a very borring handwash.

If it happens to be spring or summer, then my yard can produce the fodder. If not, you can even get roses at some convenience stores. Just add a few piees of greenery from your yard. (Even a spring or two of rosemary adds a fun touch.)

Another trick that I do is take an already built grocery store bouquet and deconstruct it into multiple smaller arrangements. If I'm lucky, I'll fill in any holes with greenery from my yard and voila! One arrangement can now brighten three rooms with no one the wiser. (In fact, I think there's something quite intimate about posy-sized arrangements.)

Whether it's your own spring buds, or ones that you grab on your weekly grocery run, give it a shot. And see if you notice the difference.
